Aransas County is one of the 20 counties involved in the elections for the 13th Court of Appeals. There are four races for Justices on the 13th Court of Appeals. The Chief Justice is up for election along with three Justices. The current make up of the Court is three Republicans and three Democrats.
CHIEF JUSTICE
The Chief Justice race pits sitting Justice Jaime Tijerina (R) against sitting Justice Gina Benavide (D). Justice Tijerina has a long record of using literal interpretations of the law including the Texas and US Constitutions. Justice Tijernia is also a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army Reserves where he served in the Judge Advocates Corps. He also served as the Kenedy County Attorney for 12 years. Bringing vast amounts of diverse legal experience, Justice Tijernia would be a well-rounded, conservative Chief Justice. Please follow Justice Tijernia at Jaime for Justice.
PLACE 2
The Place Two race pits newcomer Jenny Cron (R) against incumbent Nora Longoria. Ms. Cron has a long history working in the County Attorney Offices in Kleburg and then Nueces County. She served as a prosecutor for part of her tenure in Kleburg County and was the Chief Litagator for part of her tenure in Nueces County. She currently in working in the private sector as a civil litagator in commerce and business. Ms. Cron’s experience and literal interpreatation of the law would lead her to be a positive, conservative Justice on the Court. PLACE 4
Place Four is a contest between Ysmael Fonseca (R) and Joe Martinez (D). The Place is currently held by Justice Tijerina who is running for Chief Justice. Judge Ysmael is currently serving as Judge of the 476th District Court in Hildago County. Judge Fonseca has stated to me that he understands people’s lives, liberty, property and right to pursue happiness depend on his decisions. He also literally interprets the laws and both of our Constitutions. Judge Fonseca brings experience and would be an outstanding Justice on the 13th Court of Apeals. PLACE 5
The final 13th Court of Appeals race is for Place 5 between Jon West (R) and Regi Compian Richardson (D). This seat is currently held by Justice Gina Benavide (D) who is running for Chief Justice. Mr. West has served as a felony prosecutor in 10 counties, first assistant District Atorney in four counties and has experience in family law, personal injury, probate, corporate/business and real estate law as well as appellate law and class action litigation.
